What you’ll need

  • Hiking backpack (30 – 45 litres with a 2- to 3-litre water bladder is recommended, the lighter and more compact, the better while not compromising practicality. Extra water, medical kits and any shared supplies will be carried by guides, you only carry your personal belongings)
  • Good walking shoes
  • Bush neutral clothing for bush walks (shades of brown, light brown, olive, khaki or camo preferably). Please also note that it is advised to wear pants, not shorts.
  • Good hat & sunscreen
  • Poncho for possible rainy days and a good thermal jumper/top (nights can get cold, even in summer)
  • Cash for bar bills and days where lunch is not providedOptional:

  • Binoculars & cameras
  • Torch/headlamp (recommended)

Welcome to Africa

Pick-up from OR Tambo International Airport

Transfer and scenic drive to the Drakensberg Mountains

DAYS 2 - 4

Drakensberg

Visit to Tugela Falls (2nd highest waterfall in the world) and San rock art at the Royal Natal National Park

Mountain hike to Sentinel Peak – the highest freestanding peak in the Northern Drakensberg

Optional mountain biking adventure

Transfer and scenic drive to Underberg

DAY 5

On Top of the World

Sani Pass adventure – drive up the spectacular Sani Pass on the way to the highest country in the world, Lesotho.

DAY 6

Umkomaas

Scenic drive down to the KwaZulu Natal South Coast (Umkomaas)

DAYS 7 - 10

Diving

Shark & Reef dives on Aliwal Shoal with good chances to a variety of sharks as well as an array of reef fish

OPTIONAL: Add a day trip to Protea Banks for exclusive, more advanced diving
Day hike to an indigenous forest and game drive at nearby nature reserve and game park with a great chance to see endemic bird species and the largest antelope species in Africa – the Eland

DAYS 11 - 15

Into the Wild

Scenic drive up the coast to the rolling hills of Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park with a quick stop at the mighty Tugela mouth

Check-in and game drive to our bush camp and trails base

Fully catered 4-night wilderness trail on Big 5 territory – the real safari experience! Good chances to see the Big 5 and especially rhino

OR

Fully catered 2- or 3-night wilderness trail on Big 5 territory and 2- (1-)night catered accommodation at the park Lodge

Relaxing afternoon outing to St Lucia estuary and town for lunch and to see the largest breeding population of hippos in the world!

DAY 16

Sodwana

Scenic drive up along the coast through the iSimangaliso Wetland Park tropical savanna and fever tree forests to Sodwana Bay (on the 2-night wilderness trail option a stop will be made at St Lucia on the way to Sodwana Bay)

Afternoon trip & sunset cruise to 9-mile beach & lake Sibayi

DAY 17 - 20

Tropical Diving

Tropical reef dives in a pristine marine protected area with good chances to see an array of macro life (including whales, whale sharks, manta rays etc – depending on season

False Bay forest walk day trip, an excellent birding spot with beautiful beaches and a large collection of marine fossils amid the beautiful coastal forest trees.

DAY 21

Kosi Bay

Scenic drive to Kosi Bay near the Mozambique border through sandy fields of tropical savanna.

Check-in at our accommodation

Snorkelling in natural breeding sanctuary, visit to the mangroves and 3-lake boat trip on the lakes in the afternoon.

DAYS 22 & 23

Kayaking

Kayak adventure at the mouth, including exploring the mangroves and natural breeding sanctuary

Visit to the Thonga traditional fishing kraals

Day trip to either Tembe Elephant Park (with chances of seeing big tuskers) or to Ndumo Game Reserve (with beautiful ficus stands and fever tree forests, also excellent for birding with >460 different species)

DAY 24

Swaziland

Short drive to Swaziland

Check-in at our accommodation on the National Park

Afternoon safari (chances of seeing lions)

DAYS 25 & 26

Malolotja

After the 2-hour Sunup cycling safari, we embark on our journey to Malolotja Nature reserve and our nearby accommodation

Drive through the untamed mountains of Swaziland on some of the oldest rocks in the world
